HEIC is the high-efficiency format Apple has used for iPhone photos since iOS 11. It stores images at roughly half the size of JPG with the same quality, but it is not supported everywhere outside the Apple ecosystem.
HEIC opens natively on iPhone, iPad and recent macOS. On Windows or Android you may need the HEIF extension, or simply convert it to JPG first.
TIFF is a high-quality, often lossless format favoured in photography, publishing and scanning. It preserves maximum detail and supports layers, but files are large and not web-friendly.
TIFF opens in photo software such as Photoshop, Preview on macOS and Windows Photos; web browsers usually cannot display it directly.
