BMP (Bitmap) is an uncompressed image format from Windows that stores every pixel exactly. Quality is perfect but files are very large, so it is rarely used online today.
BMP opens in the built-in image viewer on Windows and macOS and in any web browser; it is supported almost everywhere.
HEIC is the high-efficiency format Apple has used for iPhone photos since iOS 11. It stores images at roughly half the size of JPG with the same quality, but it is not supported everywhere outside the Apple ecosystem.
HEIC opens natively on iPhone, iPad and recent macOS. On Windows or Android you may need the HEIF extension, or simply convert it to JPG first.
