Why is my speed lower than what my internet plan says?
Your plan's speed is a theoretical maximum. Real-world speed is affected by Wi-Fi signal strength, distance from the router, how many devices are connected, VPN overhead, and network congestion during busy hours. For the most accurate reading, connect with an ethernet cable, close other apps, and run the test a few times.
What is ping and why does it matter?
Ping (or latency) is how long it takes for a small data packet to travel from your device to the server and back, measured in milliseconds. Low ping (under 30ms) is important for online gaming and video calls. For regular browsing and streaming, anything under 100ms feels smooth.
Should I test on Wi-Fi or with a cable?
A wired (ethernet) connection gives you the truest measure of your broadband speed because it removes wireless interference. Testing on Wi-Fi shows your actual speed at your device's current location - which can be much lower if you're far from the router or there are walls in between.
What's the difference between download and upload speed?
